Cosmetic Dentistry

What is cosmetic dentistry? The simple answer is that cosmetic dentistry refers to any dental procedure that is designed to give you a more beautiful smile. They used to be called Smile Makeovers. But now, with laser whitening, zoom bleaching, porcelain veneers, and cosmetic dental implants, we refer to it as cosmetic dentistry.

They are procedures that most people think are just for show, but they actually have a lot of health benefits beyond just giving you a beautiful, confident smile.

Get a Celebrity Smile

If you have ever looked at celebrities and wished that you could have a smile like the stars, Roos Dental wants to assure you that you can. All you need is a little cosmetic dentistry. We can do anything from fixing a broken tooth to performing tooth whitening procedures for you.

The first step is to come in for a cosmetic dentistry consultation with Dr. Roos. During this visit we will evaluate your current teeth and smile, understand your personal goals, determine what treatment is needed, and present a treatment plan proposal. Some want a perfect smile and are looking for invisalign or dental implants, or veneers, while others simply want a whiter smile with Zoom laser whitening. It’s really up to you.

It is true that certain cosmetic dentistry procedures are mainly cosmetic, such as tooth whitening. Other procedures, however, can dramatically improve your bite, your smile, your smile midline, and your gum health. Dental Implants, implant bridges, full coverage crowns, LANAP, and invisalign all help to re-establish your bite and your ability to chew properly. If you have questions about gaps, chips, or whitening, please feel free to contact us. We’ll take a look, and give you our opinion.

Dental Tooth Veneers

Though many might argue that Dental Tooth Veneers are mainly cosmetic, I feel they have much more value than just vanity. A healthy, beautiful smile can dramatically increase a person’s confidence and willingness to smile. Smiling and confidence lead to great things in life, not just a pretty smile.

Dental Veeners are basically a thin shell on the front side of your teeth. Dr. Roos will also wrap the veneer around the edges and the bottom of your tooth, fix crooked tooth issues, as well as broken teeth and chipped teeth. Some people call it tooth reshaping or re-contouring of your teeth and gums. In simplest terms, a Dental Veneer is the front side of a full coverage crown. This maintains most of your natural tooth structure. It is a more conservative approach to a beautiful smile.

Cosmetic Dental Crowns

Cosmetic Dental Crowns, or all ceramic and porcelain crowns can also be used to reshape your smile. They are similar to veneers except that they cover the entire tooth surface. If you are doing multiple veneers and/or cosmetic crowns, Dr. Roos will use a wax up process to design your new smile prior to prepping. This way you can see your new smile, critique it, and change it before anything permanent is done.

Dental crowns are much stronger than veneers due to the full coverage design. They can be place on any healthy tooth and can immediately restore the whiteness and beautiful shape of your teeth that you are looking for. The process is painless and can usually be done in two visits.

Fixing Tooth Gaps

There are really two types of “gaps” to consider when you're trying to get the perfect smile. The first is that you might have a slight gap between two consecutive teeth. As mentioned earlier, a veneer or a cosmetic crown will help to fill in this gap. Sometimes it as simple as filling in the little space at the top of the teeth; other times we re-design your smile out of wax and veneer multiple teeth. This way we can improve the whiteness, the mid-line, and the size and shape of all your front teeth.

The second is the gap created by having one or more missing teeth. If you have a couple of missing teeth on the same row (upper or lower) we can fix gaps like that for you with tooth bridges. Though not the ideal treatment, they last a long time and can achieve most of the results that patients are looking for. The only down side to tooth bridges is they are more difficult to keep clean and you have to floss underneath them daily.

The more advanced and better long term solution to filling in multiple missing teeth is dental implants. With titanium dental implants, Dr. Roos will place the implant in the bone, let it heal, and then place an abutment and crown. This implant system will function and look like a natural tooth. You brush it and floss it just like your natural teeth.

When Can I Fix My Smile?

Probably the same day you call us we’ll have you come in for a cosmetic consultation. Once we have worked out a treatment plan we can usually start within a week or so. Most patients will have their new smile within two to three weeks. So if you have important meetings, weddings, job interviews or just want to look better sooner, please let us know. We’ll do our best to make sure you meet your timeline.
